Plays

Today’s entertainment news is filled with stories about women.  Movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp helped focus on the need for women’s empowerment everywhere.

Marilyn Anderson’s play, As Good As Gold, offers hilarious yet powerful truths about gender equality and ageism in show business. It’s a comedy that deals with these topics, yet does it with fun, theatricality, and satirical humor.  It had standing-ovation readings at the Writer’s Guild of America and Santa Monica Playhouse and was a workshop with 8 performances at Theatre 40 in Los Angeles, in Oct 2021.

Here’s what people said:

  • “Hilarious…well-written…truths about the industry” –Cathy M., Arena Stage Literary Manager
  • “Wonderful, funny and timely” –Donna P., Golden Globe & Emmy nominated actress
  • “Empowering to women…  I got chills… heartwarming, insightful…” –Susan W., Nurse
  • “Great characters… my sides hurt from laughing” –Felice P., Avid theatre-goer
  • “Sure to be an audience pleaser wherever it is performed.” Dennis L., Splash Magazine
  • “…loads of laughs and continuous action…definitely a play to add to your theatre schedule!” –Shari Barrett, Culver City News

People love mob stories. Historically, audiences have always been attracted to movies, TV, books, and any stories with mob themes. This is evidenced by “The Godfather” and all its sequels; “Goodfellas;” “Analyze This,” and “The Sopranos” to name a few.  All of these have attracted huge audiences and critical acclaim. Not Tonight, Vito! is a fun and socially relevant play for theatre-goers to enjoy on stage. It has tons of laughs, with the meaningful theme of “stop the fighting and create peace.”  The cast is an ensemble of characters with four couples of different ages from 18-60, so the play appeals to all ages.  It’s sort of a combination “The First Wives Club” meets “The Godfather” or “The Sopranos” meets “NO Sex and the City.”   The play has had several hugely successful readings and is available for a world premiere production!
